14 Cañonazos bailables in Dub 2020 – 2024
Remix techniques applied to Discos Fuentes’ recording archives
This research project, developed as part of the master’s degree in Digital Arts at ITM, focuses on remix studies and archival work in the field of music production. The first ten volumes of the album series ‘Los 14 Cañonazos Bailables’ by the Discos Fuentes label, produced between 1961 and 1970, were analyzed through this lens.
The research has led to the development and creation of a musical performance and a record album, produced by manipulating a selection of Colombian tropical music records.
In this project, remix techniques such as sampling, dub mixing, mashup, artificial stem separation, and remastering were employed. These applied techniques resulted in new compositions that offer a fresh and contemporary reinterpretation of Colombian tropical music
Isla Fuerte All Stars 2023-2024
Fieldwork, ethnographic research and music production camp with the Afro community of the Island. Supported by Fecisla Foundation. Isla Fuerte, Colombia 2023-2024
In this project, I worked as a music producer with the young talents of the island, exploring rhythms like champeta, reggae, cumbia, and other Caribbean music styles. I also mapped out the ‘picó’ sound systems on the island.
Ambimusic – 2015
Ambimusic is an interactive sound installation that implements a tangible ‘reactable’-style interface where sounds have a physical representation and are projected in three dimensions using a speaker array in an ambisonics configuration. All sounds within the system are organized, mixed, and processed in real time, constituting the raw material used to create the work
This project was a winner of the Contemporary Music Creation Medellín Ministry of Culture Grant
